FINAL HANDOVER OF TSUNAMI RECONSTRUCTION HOUSING PROJECT

On 26 Dec 2006, the final handover ceremony of the Singhapura Maithri Gama was held, just two years after the Asian Tsunami, heralding the close of the Tsunami housing project undertaken by the Buddhist Research Society and the Singapore Red Cross Society.

A total of 150 houses with furnishings, a 200-seater community hall and a very modern and colorful children’s playground were finally delivered to the anxious and excited community, transforming the project site into a lively and vibrant village. The theme of the children’s painting in the handover ceremony celebrations was “My Little Dream Village” and we hope that with this project, the recipients can finally “pick up” their lives after the Tsunami and continue to fulfill their modest dreams.

Finally, we take this opportunity to thank all donors and volunteers as well as the kind people of Singapore for making this project possible.

May all beings be well and happy and continue to relish in the Joy of Giving.
