Overview
Masters of Arts degree (Buddhist Studies) is an external programme with the Postgraduate Institute of Pali and Buddhist Studies (University of Kelaniya), Sri Lanka. It is conducted by the Graduate School of Buddhist Studies (Singapore).

This is a one-year programme targeted at graduate students with a good first degree in Buddhist Studies or Postgraduate Diploma in Buddhist Studies.

The programme will enable candidates to pursue further graduate courses leading to Ph.D. in Buddhist studies.

Eligibility for Admission
Graduate students good first degree in Buddhist Studies or Postgraduate Diploma in Buddhist Studies subject to approval from the Postgraduate Institute of Pali and Buddhist Studies.

  • Structure of Course
    The course is of the duration of one academic year. The academic year for 2010 will run from 26 February 2010 to 20 November 2010.
  • The course consists of 6 units:
    * ME 35 - Theravada Traditions: A historical and doctrinal
    * Pali 1 - Pali
    * ME01- Buddhist Doctrines of the Pali Nikayas: Analysis and Interpretation
    * ME06 - Origins of Mahayana and the Earliest Mahayana Sutra
    * ME 23 - Buddhist Art and Architecture II (Sri Lanka)
    * ME27 - The Social Dimension of Buddhism
  • A candidate must complete all 6 units and submit a dissertation of 5000 words within an academic year before sitting for the examination.
  • Candidates are required to attend at least 75% of all Lectures and Tutorials in order to qualify for the Exams leading to the Master of Arts degree (Buddhist Studies).

Weekly Timetable

  • For each week, there will be 4 hours of lectures
  • The course will be conducted on Friday, Saturday and Sunday afternoons and/nights.

Term 2

Academic Calendar for Year 2010
The course for 2010 is divided into 2 terms:

Term 1    
26 Feb 2010 - 18 June 2010 ( 16 weeks)
 
Academic Break 
19 June 2010-6 August 2010 (7 weeks)

Term 2       
7 August 2010 -20 November 2010 (15 weeks)

Examination
Tentatively  23 - 30 December 2010

  • Seminars and other programs will be conducted during the term break to allow greater exposure to and more focused studies on specific areas of Buddhist Studies.
  • A detailed schedule of the course will be made available to course candidates.

Registration Fee: $100.00

Tuition Fees: $3,400.00


Registration Fee is non-refundable.

  • Tuition Fees are not refundable except for one instance only, i.e.  if the candidate¡¦s application is not approved by the Postgraduate Institute.
